50% Increase in Profit Margins with Accurate FBA Fee Calculation
The packaging dimensions of your product play a crucial role in determining your profit margins. By calculating FBA fees skillfully, you can maximize your profit margins. This is how your profit margins will increase:
● Low Storage cost
● Less Shipping fees
● Controlled FBA fees
● Inexpensive Material
● Better Pricing Strategies
In this article, we will guide you through the process of calculating FBA fees for your next product, helping you to:
● Learn how to measure and calculate packaging dimensions accurately
● Determine the optimal packaging size for maximum profit
● Calculate FBA fees with confidence
By the end of this article, you will be equipped with the knowledge to calculate FBA fees efficiently, leading to a potential increase of 50% in your profit margins. Let’s get started!
What Impacts Your FBA Charges?
● Length
● Width
● Height
● Weigh
Length
First, we will understand what length is and how it will impact FBA fees. It is a fundamental physical property that describes the extent or size of something in a linear direction.
Width
It is the distance between two opposite sides or edges of a two-dimensional shape or object.
Height
Height measures the distance from the base or bottom of something to its top or highest point. It is a fundamental physical quantity that describes the vertical dimension or extent of objects, people, or structures.
Length, Width, and height are all measured in
●Meters (m)
● Centimeters (cm)
● Millimeters (mm)
● Kilometers (km)
● Inches (in)
● Feet (ft)
Weight
Weight is the force exerted on an object by gravity, measured in mass units (e.g., kg, lb).
Dimensional Weight and Actual Weight
Understanding these terms is essential to accurately interpret the FBA Fee Chart. Amazon calculates its fees based on either the actual weight or dimensional weight (also known as volumetric weight) of a package. Dimensional weight is calculated based on the package’s size, rather than its actual weight. If the actual weight is greater than the dimensional weight, Amazon will charge based on the actual weight. Conversely, if the dimensional weight is greater, Amazon will charge based on the dimensional weight. The formula of dimensional weight:
Dimensional Weight= (Length*Width*Height) /5000
Suppose, your product package has these dimensions (20cm*15cm*3cm) and the weight is 230g, its dimensional weight will be 180g. So, Amazon will charge on the base of actual weight.
Amazon has two types of fulfillment plans
● Low-Price FBA Rates
● Standard Fulfillment by Amazon
1.Low-Price FBA Fee Chart
Amazon facilitates sellers who want to sell small, lightweight, fast-moving, and low-priced products in this fulfillment module. If the product selling price is £10 (UK), €11 (DE), €12 (NL, FR, IT, ES), 140 SEK (SE), 55 PLN (PL) or less (including VAT).
In this chart, each row interprets the size tier, product dimensions, weight, and price as the FBA fee for the respective country.
We will try to understand the size and weight section. Below each size tier, dimensions are given in this order (length, width, and height), after that weight is given.
For the small envelope, your product package dimensions should be less than or equal to 20cm in length, 15cm in width,1cm in height, and 80g in weight. Your FBA fee will be 1.34 £ in the UK market.
And if your product package dimensions are (30cm*20cm*2cm) and 120g weight. You will be charged 1.69£ for the UK and 2.73€ for France.
Here is the twist, you need to explore all the available size tiers and choose a profitable one. This is how we saved 0.17 £ for each unit of a product launched in the UK. Our product dimensions were (28cm*20cm*5cm) and 400g weight. Our product package was in an extra large envelope size tier and the FBA fee per unit is 2.59£. But we decreased our product package height by 1cm and the FBA fee being charged is 2.36£.
You can also increase your profit margins by adjusting your product dimensions for higher profit.
The most challenging part will be height, so you need to focus on the height section. This will be a game changer for your profit margins.
2.Standard Fulfillment by Amazon
This fulfillment module applies to all products priced above the following thresholds: £10 in the UK, €11 in Germany, €12 in France, Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands, SEK 140 in Sweden, and PLN 55 in Poland. This module follows the same structure as Amazon’s Low Price FBA chart, with standardized sections for easy reference.
Against each size tier, dimensions are given but if the weight varies, the FBA fee will also change.
The given size tier standard envelope with dimensions (≤ 33cm*23cm*2.5cm) and if the product package weight is 211g, the FBA fee will be 2.20 not 2.07 for the UK market. By decreasing weight by 1g, you can save 0.13£ per unit. This may seem very attractive, but suppose you are sending an inventory of 10,000 units to the Amazon warehouse, you will save 650£ of the FBA fee and more savings in shipping fees and packaging material.
Conclusion
In this article, we have summarized the FBA fee calculation for both Amazon fulfillment modules. As we can see by studying the FBA chart efficiently, optimize your costs and boost your profit margins. The most important factor while calculating your FBA fee will be either weight or height. Making small adjustments to these factors can give you a competitive edge and help you stay ahead in the market.
